Variations on well-known historical or original themes were extremely popular in the 19th century. The usual treatment of historical music at that time also provided material for the virtuosity of instrumentalists, which was developing more and more. The interesting and entertaining variation sequences, which Gerhard Braun selected for the present edition from various publications of the 19th century, also offer today's flutists excellent practice material and are very suitable as recital pieces or encores.
